First gig (4/2004):
My first gig was an amazing and scared-shitless experience of my life. First I’ll start off with the connect that got me the gig. His name is Sung and he did massive amounts of Asian nightlife promotion in Philly and he frequented a bar that belongs to the family of one of my best friends. He told me about him and I introduced myself and gave him a demo and he liked what he heard. A week later he asked me if I wanted to do a gig and I said “hell yeah, where at?” He tells me Cleveland, OH! Whaaat?? An out of state gig for my first gig? No way! I took it on simply because I doubt I’d ever get another chance like that.
So me and my homie KB (another DJ that worked under Sung) packed our bags after I got out of my 10th grade class, we each had about 3 crates/bags of records plus our own luggage. Got on the plane, landed late Friday, slept, woke up Saturday to get some food and meet some peoples and headed to the venue. DJed that night at a Cambodian/Laotian New Years party. Came back, Saturday night and checked into a 5-star hotel, passed out, woke up Sunday, flew back to Philly and went back to school the next day with the craziest story to tell my friends! The entire weekend went by in a blur but I do remember that I was about to crap my pants the entire time. I was sooo nervous. The turnout at the club was alright, it wasn’t packed but it wasn’t bad either so I got a serious first-hand experience and would do it all again in a heart beat!
